Yes, you can. As a self-employed person without staff, you can receive a fixed R&D deduction of €13,360, -, provided that you spend at least 500 hours of research and development work per calendar year. Starting freelancers are also entitled to an additional deduction of €6,684.
The S&O hourly wage is calculated by dividing the total salary of R&D employees by 0.85 times the total number of hours paid. This hourly wage is used to determine the amount of the R&D remittance reduction.
In addition to wage costs, companies with staff may also qualify for other costs and expenses that are directly attributable to R&D work. Self-employed people can opt for a flat-rate deduction or specify actual costs and expenses.
The application deadlines differ for freelancers and companies with staff. It is important to check the WBSO calendar for specific dates.
All Dutch companies that carry out research and development work can apply for WBSO. This applies to both companies with staff and self-employed people without staff (freelancers).
